Some House members are pushing a new proposal that could align K-12 campus openings to the local area’s community college campus.  House Bill 375 wouldn’t public schools to open earlier than August 15th, but if the community college campus opens afterward, the public school system could sync the start date with college.

Other House Republicans are calling for a pilot project where officials would study school start and stop dates and how they may affect student achievement.  House Bill 389 would order state education authorities to track school calendars in nearly three dozen, North Carolina counties to assess which counties could reasonably operate under local school calendar control and which counties may struggle.
